Fire and special perils (assets) Insurance

The fire and Special Perils insurance provide cover [i.e. financial compensation] to the insured organisation in the event of damage or destruction of property as a result of:

Scope of Cover

  • Fire outbreak, lightning and explosion. Fire in this instance refers to such as may result from any source.
  • The policy further covers other risks usually referred to as special perils: Storm & tempest, flood, wind & hailstorm
  • Earthquake, subterranean fire, land subsidence and tornado
  • Aircraft and other aerial devices or articles dropped therefrom. Bursting or overflowing of water tanks, apparatus or pipes causing water damage to the property.
  • Impact damage to the buildings by any road vehicle, horse or cattle [except those owned by the insured]


Assets Covered

  • Buildings and Structures of every description within the organisation.
  • Any form of machinery such as Generating Plants, etc
  • Contents which include Office Furniture and Equipments
  • Other property owned and located within the company premises

Guinea Insurance Company Limited became operative from December 3, 1958. The Overseas shareholders held 51% majority shares before the indigenization decree of 1976, reversed the holding to 60% Nigerian interest, 40% overseas.

The Overseas Shareholders divested their 40% holding to existing Nigerian Shareholders in 1988 thereby making the Company 100% Nigerian.
