House Owners/ Householders Insurance

House owners/Householders Insurance policy is designed to provide cover for loss or damage to the insured’s (owners or tenants) building, fixtures and fittings, contents, jewelry and valuables, as well as public liability benefits.

Scope of Cover

  • Loss or damage to the building and its permanent fixtures
  • Loss or damage to household contents
  • Additional expense of alternative accommodation or loss of rent (if specifically covered)
  • Liability to the public as an owner or occupier of the building
  • Personal Accident to the insured


Risk Cover

The following risks are covered by this policy:

  • Bursting or overflowing of domestic water tanks, apparatus or pipes
  • Flood
  • Fire, lightning, thunderbolt
  • Impact damage caused by any road vehicle not belonging to or under the control of the insured
  • Theft caused by forcible or violent breaking into and out of the building or any attempt threat

The policy may be extended to cover the Insured against any legal fees

Compensations Offered

  • Depending on the property insured, the insurance cover provides compensation equivalent to the market value or the cost of replacement
  • In cases where the items insured are susceptible to depreciation, the actual value is offered

Guinea Insurance Company Limited became operative from December 3, 1958. The Overseas shareholders held 51% majority shares before the indigenization decree of 1976, reversed the holding to 60% Nigerian interest, 40% overseas.

The Overseas Shareholders divested their 40% holding to existing Nigerian Shareholders in 1988 thereby making the Company 100% Nigerian.
